What is an
Agile Coach?

An Agile Coach is the professional who guides organisations and teams through adopting agile methodologies and genuinely transforming leadership behaviour. They don't lecture. They don't consult. They train inside the field.

The full definition

An Agile Coach is a professional who facilitates the adoption of agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, OKRs) and develops the leadership capabilities that make that change stick. They work on three levels at once: team, leader y organisation.

The difference from a trainer or consultant is structural: the Agile Coach practises inside the system, observes real behaviour and gives feedback the moment it happens. They don't hand over a report and leave. They stay until the change is self-sustaining.

«Listening doesn't activate neuroplasticity. Doing does. The Agile Coach creates the conditions for the team to practise the change — not just understand it.»

What does an Agile Coach do day to day?

An Agile Coach's work doesn't fit into a fixed task list. It depends on the team's maturity level and where they are in the process. These are the six functions that come up consistently:

01 · Maturity diagnosis

They assess the agile level of the team or organisation: which behaviours are installed, which are missing and which are blocking progress. Without a diagnosis there's no real starting point.

02 · Facilitating real sessions

They design and run retrospectives, planning sessions and complex problem-solving sessions. The test: the session has to produce an observable change, not just discussion.

03 · Observation and feedback in the field

They observe meetings and interactions as they happen. They give the leader feedback straight afterwards — not in a monthly report nobody reads.

04 · Designing training dynamics

They create exercises adapted to the team's specific context. The dynamics answer the prior diagnosis, not a generic catalogue.

05 · Measuring impact on KPIs

They link behaviour change to business indicators: productivity, absenteeism, turnover, sales, accident rates. Without a KPI it's training, not transformation.

06 · Organisational scaling

When the change works in one team, they design how to replicate it across the rest of the organisation systematically and measurably.

Agile Coach vs. Scrum Master: the key difference

This is the most common confusion. Both roles work in agile environments, but their scope is radically different:

Frequently asked questions

Do you need to know how to code to be an Agile Coach?

No. Agility was born in software development but today it's applied in sales, HR, operations, healthcare and industry. The Agile Coach works with behaviour and team dynamics, not with code.

How much does an Agile Coach earn in Spain?

An Agile Coach with 2-3 years' experience and certification bills between €40,000 and €70,000 a year. Senior profiles who can scale across an organisation go beyond €90,000. Freelancing usually multiplies that range.

Which certifications carry most weight for an Agile Coach in Spain?

The most recognised: AECOP, Scrum Manager, ICAgile (ICP-ACC) and the PMI's. EL DOJO's Master Leadership Agile Coach includes AECOP + Scrum Manager + 6 additional certifications in a single programme.

How long does it take to become an Agile Coach?

With real practice from day one — not just theory — 6-8 months is enough to acquire the tools and the field hours needed to work independently.
